Supporting Education

Dstl wants to share its enthusiasm and innovation by investing in science and technology education. We work in partnership with the education community to inspire teachers and students alike. Our aim is to generate interest in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), and to inspire the next generation by feeding their curiosity and challenging young minds.

STEM Ambassadors

Our scientists volunteer to visit local schools, supporting their science events and arranging workshops covering any aspect of the curriculum from primary to A-Level, in any of the STEM subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. If your school is local to our Salisbury, Portsmouth or Sevenoaks sites, please contact us to discuss what our ambassadors could do for you.

Defence Dynamics

Defence Dynamics Logo

Defence Dynamics provides free online teaching resources across all subjects, including STEM, to support teachers in the delivery of lessons to 14-16 year olds. All the learning resources draw on compelling examples of MOD work in the UK and internationally.

The primary aim of Defence Dynamics is to deliver an exciting resource to support key curriculum subjects, while improving young people's understanding of the breadth and nature of the MOD's work. Dstl is supporting the MOD with this resource by providing examples of our work and highlights of our research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

To view and download all materials for free, please visit the Defence Dynamics site.

Further School Support

Dstl encourages employees to get involved in education, and special leave is available to those staff who wish to volunteer for an activity that benefits the local community. Our commitment to community liaison allows employees to use work time to participate in education projects as Governors, mentors or classroom readers.

Supporting Education is part of Dstl's Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
