Protecting our Forces in the Air

The proliferation of advanced Infra-Red Man-Portable Air-Defence Systems (MANPADS) threats to aircraft is increasing the need for sophisticated countermeasures. Dstl is at the forefront of design and development for protection against this threat, possessing deep knowledge of both missile seeker and countermeasure technologies.

Working in partnership with DECs and the Air Warfare Centre, Dstl has researched, designed and developed flare decoy countermeasures suitable for incorporation within the Defence Aids Suites of a range of rotary and fixed wing aircraft. The close working relationship between Dstl and UK manufacturers is enabling rapid introduction of the flares into service and they will soon be protecting British aircraft in operational theatres.
