The following pages explain the work that Dstl does through the use of examples and case studies.

We are primarily focused on the needs and future requirements of MOD and our Armed Forces. Our areas of work cover the full spectrum of land, sea and air system requirements, where we explore, analyse, advise and provide decision support on weapons systems research, the balance of investment, technical risk and top-level systems research.

We take a systems approach to our work in order to provide the best possible solutions for our customers. Systems work is about looking at the whole problem and thinking in the round, long term. This enables us to provide advice from the operational through to strategic level decision making.

We can make modifications to existing technology or introduce new innovative technologies to best suit the issues and the available budget. Our staff are also deployable to the MOD, Armed Forces and other government departments to act as the hub for science and technology, facilitating joined up working across government if required.
