The Dstl graduate application process - what you can expect
Applying
You can apply by completing the application form. Please ensure that you quote the correct vacancy reference number on your application form and email it to graduates@dstl.gov.uk by the specified closing date. Application forms can only be accepted in paper format under exceptional circumstances. Your details will entered onto our database (Dstl complies with the Data Protection Act).
Acknowledgement
You will receive an emailed acknowledgement that your application form has been received. You will hear within five weeks whether your application has been successful.
Assessment Centre
If you are selected, you will attend an Assessment Centre where you'll be asked to complete the following tasks:
1. Personality Questionnaire (completed prior to attending the Assessment Centre). These measure an individual's traits and preferences.
2. Online tests on ‘Verbal Reasoning’ & ‘Abstract Reasoning’.
The ‘’Verbal Reasoning’ test measures attributes, for example whether a person can read and comprehend a written passage of text, understand word meanings and evaluate competing or opposing statements.
The ‘Abstract Reasoning’ test provides an indication of a person's ability for divergent or lateral thinking, their ability to switch between contexts and levels of analysis, and their cognitive thought processes when problem-solving. The exercise uses mostly shapes and avoids text or numbers.

3. A competency based interview.
4. A technical interview to include a 10 minute technical presentation on your Final Year Project
5. A tour of the relevant Dstl Department.
Travelling expenses incurred within mainland Britain will be reimbursed.
Results
We aim to inform you of the results of your interview within two weeks.
