Industrial Placements

Dstl is pleased to offer a broad range of university students the opportunity to participate in our industrial placement schemes, which is a great way to broaden your experience, see your academic studies applied within the workplace and whilst getting to know Dstl.
These placements exist across Dstl and can last up to 50 weeks. During the placement students are invited to networking and development events to expand their current skill set and learn about careers in Science.
Summer Placements
See our summer placement vacancies
Dstl offers a number of holiday placements, mainly in the summer. These placements generally run for 2-3 months and provide students with an opportunity to gain some relevant work experience whilst earning some much needed spend.
Year In Industry
Dstl participates in the Year in Industry Scheme. Please contact your local representative for details of the scheme.
The new Year in Industry (YINI) promotional film features Alistair Owen, who was employed by Dstl during the 2006/2007 academic year. Owen worked at Dstl's Fort Halstead site in Kent, and carried out exciting research into mine detection. As a result of his work, Owen was awarded 1st prize in the southern area regional final of the Year In Industry Contribution and Business Award. To view the video visit the Year in Industry website.
