Achieving Speed - Racing Cars

Racing cars can reach speeds of more than two hundred and fifty miles per hour. While this is not anywhere near as fast as the speed planned for BLOODHOUND SSC, it is still really quick. Racing cars are designed in special ways to achieve such high speeds. The design of racing cars ensures they have powerful thrust (pushing power of the engine). The design also reduces air resistance, which would slow the car by pushing back on its body, and prevents lift, which stops the wheels gripping the road.

Here is a labelled picture of a racing car. You can see how its design and special shape give it excellent aerodynamics and allow it to go fast.
