BLOODHOUND SSC Competition - The Word’s Fastest Bike
As a result of our scientific expertise, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has recently become involved with an incredibly exciting science and engineering project, known as BLOODHOUND SSC. The BLOODHOUND project team hope to build the world's fastest land vehicle to beat the current world record for speed across land. To beat the current record the vehicle must travel very, very fast. If plans go well, the vehicle could travel at over one thousand miles an hour, that's over ten times faster than a car travels on a motorway and is even faster than the speed of sound. The vehicle will be called the BLOODHOUND SSC (SuperSonic Car).
Dstl is keen to use its involvement with BLOODHOUND to get more school students interested in science, maths and engineering, and so offered students the chance to win Gold Membership to the BLOODHOUND SSC 1K Club! Membership will include the chance to visit the BLOODHOUND development site and see the SuperSonic Car being developed and tested! To get their hands on this exciting prize, students needed to do come up with a design for the World’s Fastest Bike. The designs had to use the same aerodynamic principles that were applied in the design of the SuperSonic Car. The competition was split into two categories; one for primary-age students and one for secondary. The winners of the competition will be announced soon.
