Student Autonomous Underwater Competition – Europe (SAUC-E) 2008
SAUC-E has been designed to advance Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) technology. It is hoped this will be achieved by challenging the next generation of engineers and scientists to design and build an AUV and then perform realistic missions in the underwater environment.
The competition encourages young engineers and scientists to think about underwater technology and its future possibilities, as well as fostering ties between the students and the organisations involved in AUV technologies.
Six university teams competed at SAUC-E 2008, hosted by DGA (France) and held at IFREMER, Brest, France in July 2008.
The competition included both static and autonomous assessment. The static assessment required a conference quality written report and oral presentation that covered the design of the vehicle, integration choices and team structure.
