Defence lab appoints new HR director
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has appointed
Ruth Davies as its new Human Resources and Communications Director,
a Board position based at Porton Down in Wiltshire. Ruth, who starts
this week, was formerly Head of HR Strategy at the Environment Agency,
a role she had held since December 2000.
Ruth will head the strategic improvement plan to develop staff skills
and implement processes to support Dstl's 'integrated laboratory' (i-lab)
programme. Over the next three years Dstl will be reducing its number
of sites from 11 to three core sites to bring its experts closer together.
Ruth will play a key role in delivering this strategic improvement programme.
Commenting on the appointment Ruth said: "It's an exciting time to
be joining one of the Government's top performing agencies. The new
integrated laboratory strategy is a dynamic change programme designed
to unify all aspects of Dstl into a more consistent organisation, with
the same technical, physical and cultural practices throughout. I look
forward to the challenge of helping to create improved team integration,
enhanced development opportunities and career prospects for all our
staff."
She added: "Dstl's reputation continues to grow as an employer of choice
for graduates and I'm keen to raise our profile further by promoting
the rich rewards of a career in science and technology to students of
all ages."
Ruth holds a Degree in Pharmacology from University College London
and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Ruth joined the Environment Agency when it was first formed in 1996
as Regional HR Manager before moving to Head office in 2000. Prior to
that Ruth held various senior HR positions in the university sector
and in recruitment consultancy.
Ruth takes over the role from Richard Eade who retired in June.
